Our executive leadership team underwent coaching from Mr. Kevin Johnson of The Johnson Leadership Group from August 2020 to March 2021. For many of us, it was the first time receiving any leadership coaching in our careers. Mr. Johnson’s approach consisted of easy-to-follow exercises and discussions. Through Mr. Johnson’s process, the team learned about self-awareness, how to constructively empower each other and our teams, effective communication, and more.
Mr. Johnson’s coaching has helped us to remember to take our time to pause and reflect, reminded us of the importance of self-care in personal and professional growth, and taught our team how we can better support each other in reaching our highest potential and to be more effective in our roles. I recommend coaching through The Johnson Leadership Group to anyone looking to maximize their personal and professional potential.

The keynote address given by Kevin Johnson at our Martin Luther King, it was inspirational, thought provoking and motivational. Johnson inspired us with the words of Dr. King regarding using love to combat the effects of injustice and using our God-given talents to “do something” rather than idly standing by. He gave us practical ways to organize our thoughts, set priorities and establish clear goals. When Johnson concluded his presentation, I felt encouraged that even in my small way in my community I can make a significant difference.

Upon review of the written evaluations, Kevin Johnson’s facilitation of the “Becoming A Person of Influence” seminar for our mid-level leaders at FDA revealed an 85%-plus “strongly agree” that all goals, objectives, desired outcomes, and Johnson’s teaching style, were exemplary, This course is a key component of Co-Hort 1 as we roll out a new leadership curriculum for our employees nationwide. We are pleased to have Johnson on our faculty.

Black Enterprise produced a multi-day event which celebrated the achievements of men across multiple categories (business, finance, technology, entrepreneurism, etc.) as well as focusing on career growth at the executive level. Kevin rose to the challenge in providing astute executive level coaching to all attendees that were assigned to him. Based on feedback, Kevin was diligent in understanding the needs/goals of the client, then mapped out a clear vision/focus for them to follow as a guidepost. He also provided his clients with reference materials, post the event to keep on the course and offered them the opportunity to continue the conversation while on their journey to being the best version of themselves. I would wholeheartedly invite Kevin back as coach for our upcoming event as I’m sure the attendees as well as myself are looking forward to his contributions that make a huge impact on all involved.

Kevin’s presentation “Everyone Communicates, Few Connect” was expertly delivered. Kevin is very knowledgeable on the topic and his teaching skill is very engaging. He delivered an impactful presentation. One of the comments we received expressed the usefulness of the tips given – “Although the content wasn’t necessarily brand new, I walked away with new and useful tips to apply to my professional and personal life. In managing people, I’ve quickly realized it’s one of the most complicated aspects of the job and building “soft skills” takes time and lots of practice.”

Mr. Kevin Wayne Johnson has been a pillar to the VCU African American Alumni Council’s Mentoring Circle. This is an organic mentorship program where VCU alumni volunteer their time touching the lives and future professional aspirations of current VCU collegiates. Kevin has offered his skills and talents informing potential and active mentees in areas such as life skills management, networking, and preparing for interviews. Kevin additionally lends his talents toward mentees’ self-advocating skills, and generally, how to persevere as one strives to identify, meet, and exceed personal goals. Kevin is well suited for this type of engagement because of his character, conduct, personal habits, and reputation, which are all beyond reproach. It has definitely been a pleasure witnessing Kevin’s participation in this alumni initiative over the past several years.
